Timeline



This is the timeline of my K1 visa, which is a non-immigrant visa used for the fiancé(e) of a U.S. citizen.

This timeline reflects the processing times, but obviously does not a give the full picture of the time it takes to assemble all the relevant documents and fill in the initial paperwork. This took around two months, mainly due to having to send original documents from the US to the UK and vice versa.


  • December 31, 2014 - 10-year Green Card received in the mail
  • December 23rd, 2014 - Notified that new card is in production
  • December 17th, 2014 - Name changed on USCIS documentation
  • November 25th, 2014 - Second biometrics appointment (for new service center data)
  • November 18th, 2014 - Waiver filed to USCIS to change petition
  • November 14th, 2014 - Name change at Social Security Office
  • November 10th, 2014 - Divorce granted
  • November 5th, 2014 - Case status updated to 'Initial Review' at California CSC
  • October 29th, 2014 - Case moved to California Service Center
  • July 16th 2014 - Biometrics appointment
  • July 1st 2014 - DMV to renew driver license/ID
  • June 28th 2014 - Biometrics appointment time received
  • June 16th 2014 - I-797 received (I-751 confirmed as received)
  • June 13th 2014 - I-751 (Removal of Conditions) form and evidence submitted
  • February 24th 2014 - Attorney services retained
  • July 16th 2012 - Green Card and welcome letter received in the mail
  • July 11th 2012 - Email received from USCIS saying Green Card was approved and in production.
  • June 14th 2012 - AP (I-131 or Travel Document) received in the post
  • April 26th 2012 - EAD received in the post
  • April 19th 2012 - Letter received from USCIS telling us case had been moved from Chicago to California for faster processing
  • March 22nd 2012 - RFE packet sent to USCIS. 
  • February 27th 2012 - RFE (Request for Evidence) received
  • January 19th 2012 - Biometrics appointment in Charlotte, NC
  • December 23rd 2011 - Received text and email confirmation of AOS receipt from USCIS
  • December 19th 2011 - Sent off Adjustment of Status paperwork
  • December 3rd, 2011 - Wedding day
  • October 11th, 2011 - Flight to NC
  • September 28th, 2011 - Visa and documents received via courier
  • September 23rd, 2011 - K-1 visa approved
  • September 23rd, 2011 - Interview at the US Embassy, London
  • July 25th, 2011 - Medical appointment.
  • July 19th, 2011 - Completed documents DS-230, DS-156, DS-157, DS-156K plus evidence and DS-2001 sent to Embassy.
  • July 18th, 2011 - Documents completed and medical booked.
  • July 14th, 2011 - Letter from US Embassy in London received; time to book medical and compile evidential documents.
  • June 20th, 2011 - 1-797 NOA1 received - Petition approved and sent to NVC.
  • March 2nd, 2011 - Receipt issued for initial petition.
  • February 27th 2011 - Documents marked correctly received by USCIS.
  • January 2011 - Paperwork sent back with new fee amount required.
  • January 2011 - Organised all paperwork and sent to USCIS.
